TAG Heuer Reveals Name of Smartwatch
There will be one more model added to the TAG Heuer Carrera line come fall and this one will be sure to get plenty of attention. In a recent interview the brandโs CEO Jean-Claude Biver revealed that the companyโs first smartwatch would be called the TAG Heuer Carrera Wearable 01.
Biver also let it slip that from a distance it will be difficult to tell โthe difference between a Carrera Heuer 01 and a Carrera Wearable 01.โ That means the upcoming smartwatch should bear a strong resemblance to the Carrera Heuer 01 that was revealed at Baselworld 2015 back in March (pictured).
Both the familiar name and the familiar look should be smart moves by TAG Heuer because they will instantly mark the smartwatch as being the product of a luxury Swiss brand. This will be a potent selling point with the fanciers of fine watches who are tempted to try out the latest tech-related item but put off by the look of smartwatches from Apple, LG and Samsung.
The success or failure of the TAG Heuer Carrera Wearable 01 will have a major effect on whether other makers of luxury timepieces decide to venture into the smartwatch field or ignore and hope itโs only a fad. With an estimated price tag of about $1,400, the TAG Heuer smartwatch is positioned to compete with the mid-line Apple Watches selling for up to $1,049.
One factor that could work against the success of the TAG Heuer Carrera Wearable 01 is that it will be running Android rather than Appleโs iOS. This means that the millions of iPhone owners will not be able to sync with the device. Of course, there are also Apple haters/Android fans for which this is a plus.
All will be revealed when the TAG Heuer Carrera Wearable 01 hits stores in October or November of 2015.
