The Nordgreen Award-Winning Pioneer Chronograph Marries Sophistication with Sustainability
Nordgreen is a boutique watchmaker that has been increasingly coming to the attention of watch aficionados over the last year. Built on sustainable, the Danish company’s men’s Pioneer chronograph is leading a bold new era of environmentally conscious watchmaking. Moreover, Nordgreen combines its commitment to sustainability with a commitment to quality.
This intriguing blend has resulted in the Pioneer, which was launched in 2019 and has been turning heads since. Not only have customers embraced this elegant new watch, but the industry is also taking notice.
Proud of their heritage, Nordgreen founders Pascar and Vasilij, took their love of watches and integrated it into Danish ideals for design and ethics. For the Pioneer chronograph, the team sought a clean but functional timepiece that pays direct homage to Scandinavian design. To best achieve this goal, there was only one designer Nordgreen wanted to work with.
Jakob Wagner is a renowned designer and amongst the most decorated in Scandinavia. Through tireless collaboration, the union between Nordgreen and Wagner resulted in something truly special. Few watches have the core values of the Pioneer combined with an affordable price. Indeed, creating an individual market segment is something Nordgreen strived for when developing the watch.
During the research process, the team was amazed to find there were no affordable watch brands that matched the principles of Nordgreen. Specifically, the company is built on an ethical foundation of using sustainable methods without compromising on design and finished quality. Finding this combination at the price point the Pioneer occupies was previously impossible.
An Eye for Detail
When the Pioneer debuted in 2019, the industry quickly took notice and customers instantly admired its cool elegance. Featuring a minimalist dial, Nordgreen sought a clean look and we think the design speaks for itself. Furthermore, the mark of quality is evident through the materials used, including a 316L Stainless Steel 42mm case, Domed Sapphire Crystal glass, and Japanese Quartz movement.
Perhaps one of the best things about the Pioneer chronograph is its versatility. As striking with formal wear as it is befitting a casual look, the watch simply looks good in most circumstances. Certainly, Nordgreen’s generous number of finishes and style choices helps make the Pioneer usable in several scenarios.
The Pioneer comes in a variety of dial colors – blue, black, and white, and in three case colors – gun metal, silver and rose gold.
Wagner and Nordgreen’s collaboration yielded plenty of rewards. Not only has the Pioneer been embraced by watch lovers, it has also been recognized for its stellar design. Both Nordgreen and Wagner were recipients of the 2020 Red Dot Award for Design. Wagner has won the award four times, and this marks the first time Nordgreen has been recognized by the prestigious award.
As big as the Pioneer is in the Nordgreen story, it is worth noting one of the company’s core goals is sustainability. For the Pioneer, that ethos remained unmoved, allowing the watchmaker to craft an environmentally friendly timepiece.
To ensure sustainability across its operations, Nordgreen offsets its carbon footprint through a tree planting program. Elsewhere, the company works with manufacturers that comply with international and Danish standards. Finally, all Nordgreen products are sustainably packaged.
