Cara Delevingne Auctions TAG Heuer Watch for Cecil the Lion

Millions of animal lovers were shocked and saddened by the brutal slaying of Zimbabweโ€™s beloved Cecil the lion by an American hunter. One of those is current โ€œIt girlโ€ Cara Delevingne who is contributing her own TAG Heuer Signature Edition watch to raise money for wildlife research.

The auction has been happening all weekend on eBay.com.UK and is scheduled to end at 12:26 BST on Monday, August 10. So far there have been 87 bids on this one-of-a-kind timepiece with the current highest being ยฃ9,300.00. All of the proceeds will go to the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit (Wild.CRU), the organization that had studied Cecil since 2008. Delevingne is one of the youngest and newest TAG Heuer brand ambassadors and the watchmaker has pledged to match the amount raised.

Delevingne released this statement on eBay: โ€œThe killing of Cecil the Lion was a tragedy. Today JOIN ME to help the scientists who care about the future of wild lions in Africa and work very hard on their conservation. Ahead of the official sale of my TAG Heuer Signature Edition I decided to auction my personal timepiece prototype.

โ€œI wore this watch on several occasions and during the last Monaco Grand Prix. The full amount will be refunded to WildCRU.org, the research unit that followed Cecil for many years. SO LETS JOIN FORCES!โ€

The British model, actress and singer turns 23 this week and has chosen to celebrate by helping one of her favorite causes. Appropriately enough, the TAG Heuer Carrera 41 designed in Delevigneโ€™s honor has a lion engraved on the case back as a nod to her astrological sign, Leo. The TAG Heuer Signature Edition Cara Delevigne being auctioned on eBay is edgy but feminine with a diamond-studded bezel, rose gold detailing and padded black calfskin band. The watch officially goes on sale in September.
