Smartwatches to be “Hot Topic” at Baselworld 2015
The Apple Watch will not be one of the timepieces on display at this year’s Baselworld but the heavily hyped wearable is sure to be one of the major topics of conversation among the attendees.
Mondaine watch brand co-owner Ronnie Bernheim was totally upfront on the subject in an interview with IBTimes UK. “For sure, smartwatches will be the topic of Baselworld this year,” he said. “[The watch companies] will all be asking [each other] ‘what are you doing about smartwatches?’ I think it will be a hot topic.”
While the Apple Watch and other wearable devices from tech companies like Samsung and LG are likely to get their share of discussion, the Baselworld crowd is more likely to pay closer attention to the Helvetica No.1 Smart by Mondaine. This analog quartz watch sends your fitness information like total steps and sleep to your smartphone via movement sensors and a Bluetooth connection. Unlike many current smartwatches that need charging every night, the Mondaine Helvetica No.1 Smart has an impressive battery life of two years.
Baselworld will be happening March 19 – 26 and we can look forward to getting the first look at the latest designs from the industry’s top watchmakers.
