Fossil Q Smartwatches Hit the Runway
The smartwatch market grows more crowded by the day as both tech companies and watchmakers rush their new designs to stores in anticipation of the (hopefully) lucrative holiday season. Todayโs smartwatch debut comes from Fossil, which previewed its Fossil Q line at New York Fashion Week.
The good news is that the Fossil Q line looks predictable stylish with body options in leather and stainless steel. The bad news is that so far Fossil has not released any details on whatโs inside those trendy cases. Itโs a given that the Fossil Q watches will run Android Wear so itโs not too hard to guess the specs. Look for a 323 x 320 resolution, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage and a 300 โ 400 mAh battery good for at least 24 hours of use.
A teaser from Fossil shows that two smartwatches and one smart bracelet will be โcoming soon.โ One watch will run Android Wear, another, which has no digital display, is a fitness device that measures calories, steps and other activities while delivering motivational cues. The devices seen on models at the Baja East and Dion Lee fashion shows are compatible with Android, iPhone and Windows Phone. There will also be a smart bracelet that will be available in styles for men and women with a variety of strap color options.
Fossil has not released a definite on-sale date for the Fossil Q smartwatches but has stated that the line will be available at retail locations and online in time for holiday shopping. Most likely that means sometime in November prior to the busiest shopping day of the season, Black Friday, which falls on November 27 this year.
Fossil is one of the brands that has taken a hit from the Apple Watch and needs to score with its own wearable devices in order to stay in the game.
