Romain Jerome Unveils Spacecraft: Batman Watch

Thereโ€™s an old saying that the only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys. Thatโ€™s never been truer than right now when watchmakers are cashing in on adult nostalgia for the superheroes of their youth with pricey timepieces that only a well heeled grownup can afford.

A few weeks ago we saw the debut of Devonโ€™s $28,000 Star Wars watch and this week Romain Jerome has introduced the latest addition to the Swiss brandโ€™s Batman collection. The Spacecraft: Batman watch, which owes its inspiration to the stealth of the Caped Crusader, is a collaboration between Romain Jerome and Warner Bros. Consumer Products on behalf of DC Entertainment. Who could have predicted that those old DC comics would spawn movies, video games and billions of dollars in products decades later?

The new watch has the same case as the previous Spacecraft model but with the addition of the familiar blue and black Batman colors. The Spacecraft: Batman watch has a trapeze-shaped case of titanium with a BVD finish in Batmobile black and a linear digit readout on the side. The Bat-signal so well respected by the citizens of Gotham City is engraved on the facets of the watch, the first time Romain Jerome has used the logo in its โ€œHorological Iconโ€ collection. The hour is shown in an iridescent blue while minutes appear on top of the case on a black disc with blue cursor. A black buffalo leather strap with blue stitching finished off the theme.

Just 75 pieces will be made of this limited edition watch, which is powered by an Agenhor self-winding mechanical movement. The price for all this space age technology is $32,950. Hey, millionaire Bruce Wayne could easily afford to pick up a few of these for his cohorts like Commissioner Gordon, Robin the Boy Wonder and Batgirl.
