Nico Gerard Pinnacle Offers Hybrid of Luxury Watch with Apple Watch
Can’t decide on whether you want to buy the new Apple Watch or add another luxury timepiece to your collection? With the latest design from Nico Gerard you can have both on your wrist at the same time.
The Nico Gerard Pinnacle line of watches combines the old and the new in one rather odd-looking package. The hybrid timepiece sports a traditional 41mm NG watch on the topside of its bracelet plus a smaller 38mm Apple Watch attached to the bottom.
Serious watch collectors might want to laugh until they get a look at the price tags for the Pinnacle collection. Stainless steel models with a steel Apple Watch start at $9,300 while the gold versions with matching gold Apple Watch Edition go up to $112,000.
The upper NG watch is powered by a mechanical Swiss made NG2824A automatic movement and is water resistant to 100m. The stainless steel model comes with a black or blue dial while the 18 karat gold model has a red dial.
The Pinnacle is currently available for preorder with the stainless/blue mode limited to 99 pieces and the gold version to 88 pieces. Delivery windows are very long—eight to 10 months for the stainless/blue version and 10 to 12 months for the cheapest stainless/black model. The wait is only six to eight weeks for the gold model. Won’t the Apple Watch be last year’s model by the time those stainless models finally arrive?
The makers of luxury watches are trying very hard to find innovative ways to combine their traditional timepieces with the fast moving technology of wearable devices. The Nico Gerard Pinnacle models seem clunky and awkward so a two-faced watch is more of a novelty than an idea that’s likely to catch on.
