Mexican Drug Lords Flaunt Luxury Watches
The life of a Mexican drug lord is exciting but dangerous so when youโre running from the law or a competing cartel, you need to know what time it is. Thatโs just one reason that these modern desperados have a penchant for collecting Swiss luxury watchesโand flaunting them on social media.
A pair of journalists at Bellingcat.com did a study of the timepieces preferred by Mexicoโs most powerful drug lords and found that these bloodthirsty criminals have quite elegant taste in watches. The most ostentatious connoisseurs of fine Swiss timepieces are Ivan and Arturo Guzman, the sons of El Chapo Guzman who seem to have inherited a love for luxury.
Richard Mille seems to be the favorite brand of Ivan Guzman, who posted a photo of four of his favorites on Twitter last year. The combined value of the timepieces is estimated to be 993,000 Euros. This brother also craves the flash of watches by Hublot and proudly showed off his Big Bang Steel Diamonds model worth about 17,000 Euros.
Of course, every true collector of luxury watches must have a Rolex and Ivan Guzman is no exception. He has a Rolex Oyster Day Date in yellow gold valued at 19,350 Euros. Revealing his impressive knowledge of less-famous pricey timepieces, Guzman also has shown off his Unwerk UR-210 RG worth somewhere between 100,000 and 150,000 Euros.
Not to be outdone, Arturo Guzman posted a pic of his own Hublot, a Big Bang Gold Ceramic watch priced at about 27,000 Euros. He also sports an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak in 18K pink gold worth approximately 50,600 Euros.
In addition to displaying their collections of luxury Swiss watches, the drug lords also have a penchant for showing off their planes, automobiles, firearms, homes and ladies. They might as well enjoy them now because none of these toys will do them any good when theyโre dead or in prison.
