Roger Dubuis Velvet Automatic – Limited Edition
Roger Dubuis, the brand, was founded in 1995. The brand has 3 pillars by which it bases its philosophy in horology, these are: audacity, excellence, and technical sophistication. In these regards, Roger Dubuis has not just met expectations but has succeeded in surpassing them beyond even their wildest dreams. Roger Dubuis embraces the concept of Haute Horlogerie with the Velvet Automatic produced in a limited series of 188 pieces. The Velvet Automatic limited edition, like all other Roger Dubuis timepieces, bears the prestigious Poincon de Genève certification.
Driving this magnificent watch is the mechanical self-winding movement Calibre RD821. This movement carries a power reserve of 48 hours (2 days), and is decorated with Cotes Circulaires on the main plate. The decoration is filled with fine etching adding texture to this piece. The oscillating rotor is stamped with the logo of the Hallmark of Geneva, and is inscribed with the phrase “Manufacture Roger Dubuis” in black lettering. The rotor is also decorated with very light snailing, which gives this component a streamlined appearance.
The case is sculpted black DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) titanium. The case is round and carries a diameter of 36mm. The bezel is set with 46 faceted amethysts while the lugs are set with 40 spinels. The main crown is also crafted from DLC titanium, and is ridged for easy adjustments to the time. This watch is outfitted with a black satin finished strap with black DLC titanium and steel adjustable folding buckle. This model is water resistant to 30 meters (3 ATM), making this piece great for daily wear. Sapphire crystal is used for the dial window defending against scratches.
The dial is black, and is brushed at the center in a sophisticated tonneau shape. The hour markers are rendered in purple elongated Roman numerals, extend from the center of the dial, all the way to the flange. The only exceptions to this are the 12 and 6 hour markers displayed here in grey. The rhodium colored dauphine hands stand out incredibly well against the dial, ensuring that this piece is not only aesthetically appealing, but also practical. The Roger Dubuis Velvet Automatic is hands down an incredible timepiece that caters to a very discerning crowd.
