Pebble Time Round Now Ready for Pre-order

One of the things that made the earliest batch of smartwatches so geeky was their rectangular shape. While a legendary maker of fine designer watches like Chanel can make a square watch look stylish and sophisticated, too many wearable devices looked more like a tiny smartphone screen on a plastic band rather than a timepiece. Those plastic smartwatches with their square faces are rapidly becoming a thing of the past as more of the brand new devices coming out in the final quarter of 2015 have round cases and actually look like real watches.

The latest round-faced smartwatch on the market comes from Pebble, one of the first makers of wearable devices. This week the brand introduced the Pebble Time Round, a major upgrade from anything the company has out right now.

The Pebble Time Round is all metal with a 38.5mm face surrounded by a large bezel. At just 7.5mm, the Time Round is also ultra thin and super light. Despite its slim package the Pebble Time Round has two days of battery life and requires only 15 minutes for a 24-hour charge. While thatโ€™s not very impressive compared to the 10-day battery life of the Pebble Time Steel, itโ€™s definitely better than the barely-24-hour charge life of the Apple Watch. Smartphone features include a microphone for voice actions, splash resistance and a 64-color display with backlight.

Unlike some smartwatches that seem to be designed only for the guys, the Pebble Time Round has two versions and one is ideal for ladies with smaller wrists. While the cases are the same, the menโ€™s style sports a 20mm strap in silver and black and the ladiesโ€™ model has a slimmer 14mm strap that in available in a rose gold finish.

The Pebble Time Round is now available for pre-order at the Pebble website as well as Amazon, Best Buy and Target. The watch will be sold at other outlets starting November 8. The price is $249 for the basic version with a leather strap and a metal bracelet is an extra $50.
