Jean-Claude Biver Talks About the TAG Heuer Smartwatch
TAG Heuer made a big splash at the recent Baselworld 2015 by announcing plans for a smartwatch coming later in the year. During the expo, the Swiss watchmakerโs CEO Jean-Claude Biver sat down for an interview with the German magazine Chronos and revealed more details about the first wearable device from a luxury brand.
It looks like weโll have to wait a few months to get all the pertinent info on the TAG Heuer smartwatch. โWe will hold a press conference in the fall where weโll announce how the watch looks, what it costs, how we manufacture it and what it can do,โ Biver said. โTAG Heuer stands for avant-garde so thatโs why we started this project. I wouldnโt do it with Zenith or Hublot.โ
Biver is adamant that the TAG Heuer smartwatch will not be just a copy of the Apple Watch. โIt will have to be different, first and foremost in its design. One must not forget that the Apple Watch still remains dependent on its aesthetics. Some people will say, โI donโt want to have something like that on my wrist.โ
โWhatever you wear on your body needs to correspond with your own personal taste,โ Biver continued. If our watch looks like a Carrera, that will set it apart from the Apple Watch. And if we offer other functions, like maybe GPS and water-resistance, those are other differences that will interest our customers.โ
