Devon Designs “Star Wars” Luxury Watch

For the last five years Devon has carved a niche for itself among makers of fine watches by creating unique high-tech timepieces. Using materials sourced from the California aerospace industry, Devon watches feature a system of interwoven Time Belts that indicate seconds, minutes and hours, plus these futuristic devices get their juice from hybrid electro-mechanical power. Who better to design a watch for the new series of “Star Wars” films?

Devon was chosen by the Disney company to co-brand a luxury watch based on “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, the first of five new films being added to the legendary space franchise. The result is The “Star Wars by Devon” watch, a high-flying combination of glass-reinforced belts used in the gauges for 747s, four high-tech optical recognition cells, four micro-step motors and 313 electrical contacts. All of these are based on a control board worthy of an intergalactic starship.

The exterior of the watch was inspired by “Star Wars” super-villain Darth Vader and the TIE Fighter starship, with a rectangular case of black DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) steel, wings incorporated into the sides, screws based on Darth Vader’s helmet and a ribbed leather strap made to resemble his gloves. Topping off all is this is the Galactic Empire logo on the crown.

According to Devon founder Scott Devon, “We knew immediately that we had to incorporate Darth Vader into the design. He is not just one of the most iconic ‘Star Wars’ characters, but he is easily the most renowned villain of all times in the movie industry.”

Only 500 “Star Wars by Devon” watches will be made over a two-year time period and each will be packaged in a Darth Vader TIE Fighter box with a pair of matching cuff links. The price for all this intergalactic craftsmanship? A cool $28,500.
