Breitling Supersports Light Body
Breitling and Bentley share many passions, one of them is an uncompromising desire to produce only excellence. It was through this shared passion that these two legendary juggernauts of their craft came together to produce a line of superior chronometers, that were specialized for the world of competitive automobile racing. The Breitling for Bentley Supersports Light Body is released in a limited production, of 1000 pieces per color variation. The watches come with variable tachometers in red, green, and black with matching bordered subdials.
This chronograph was on the wrist of rally driver Juha Kankkunen back in February 2011, when he broke the world ice speed record in Finland, with the incredible speed of 330.665km/h (205.48Mph). He was behind the wheel of a Bentley Continental GTC Supersports. The car was equipped with a Breitling instrument which was chronometer certified by the COSC.
The Bentley Supersports Light Body stands as one of the largest Breitling watches to date, with an imposing case diameter of 49mm. The case is crafted from Grade II titanium which gives the watch the name and accolade of Light Body. The main crown is screw locked ensuring that this timepiece maintains its water resistance of 100 meters (330 feet). This watch is fitted with a pinion mechanism which allows the user to make faster calculations using the variable tachometer. This tachometer is a modification of Breitling’s famous circular slide rule which is known throughout the world of aviation. Breitling uses a domed sapphire crystal which has been glare proofed on both sides making for perfect readability under any and all conditions.
Apart from the color variations, the main dials are all black with luminous indexes and hands for nighttime viewing. The chronograph uses a central seconds hand and a combined 60 minute and 12 hour totalizer at the 3 o’clock position. The register at the 9 position indicates the continuous seconds on this model. At the 6 position is a convenient date aperture.
Under the hood of this timepiece is the Breitling Calibre 27B which, like all other Breitling models, is officially chronometer certified by the COSC. This movement vibrates at a high frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour which makes the Bentley Supersports Light Body very precise. This model carries a power reserve of 46 hours when fully charged.
This watch is easily recognizable as a member of the Bentley Collection due to the iconic bezel, which is modeled after the grill from the Bentley Continental GT. Completing this watch is a textured black rubber strap designed for comfort and durability. The strap is fitted with a classic tang type buckle made from titanium. Breitling backs this watch with an international guarantee valid for 2 years from the date of purchase.
