Beware the NYC Rolex Bandits!
A big part of the pleasure of owning a fine watch is being able to show it off but Rolex owners who will be visiting the Big Apple this summer might want to consider keeping that cool piece under wraps. It seems that the NYPD is on the search for a band of seductive Rolex thieves who have been relieving gentlemen of their pricey wristwatches.
DNAinfo reports that several men have been drugged and robbed by women they picked up in bars. Hereโs just one of them:
โTake the case of the 24-year-old Gramercy Park man who picked up two women at Tao on East 58th Street last June 1. He brought the duo to his apartment on E. 19th Street, where they headed into the shower together, emerged semi-naked and prepared a drink for him.
โThat was the last thing he remembered before he woke up in the morning with the girls missing โ along with his iPhone, Apple laptop and Rolex.โ
Case #2: โAnd then there was the 35-year-old man out clubbing last July 1. He met a woman at a bar who escorted him to the Marriott Hotel on Broadway.
โBefore he went to sleep, the โluckyโ reveler put all his valuables in the roomโs safe. But the following morning, when he woke up alone, he tried to open the safe, but could not. His guest had apparently watched him lock his property and memorized the secret code.
โSecurity guards were needed to open the now-empty vault, which no longer had the victimโs credit cards and two luxury watches, including a Rolex worth tens of thousands of dollars.โ
These are just two of more than two dozen similar robberies in NYC over the last year so guys who are planning to wear their Rolex watches while clubbing might want to reconsider showing off their wrist candy and other valuables until the thieves are behind bars.
