Asus Unveils ZenWatch 2
The holiday shopping season is just around the corner so the smartwatches just keep coming as watchmakers and tech companies reveal their latest models in hopes of grabbing a piece of the action during the lucrative final quarter of 2015. The most recent entry in the already-crowded smartwatch market is an affordable model from Asus.
The Asus ZenWatch 2 is the second generation model of the brand’s Android Wear line of smartwatches and a definite upgrade from last year’s version. Like most other wearable devices, the ZenWatch 2 comes equipped with a slew of fitness tracking features like a built-in virtual fitness coach that can give users feedback and help them reach their goals. The Wellness smartphone app can store, chart and track all that workout data.
Unlike some other smartwatches, the ZenWatch 2 is IP67 water resistant, which should come in handy for tracking laps in the pool or other exercises that involve getting wet. There’s also two days of battery life so users won’t have to charge every night and the watch is compatible with iOS or Android.
While some smartwatches are sized big and bulky for the guys, the Asus ZenWatch 2 comes in a smaller size for the ladies, along with a wide array of design options. Case choices include silver, gunmetal and rose gold metal with the same colors available in a stainless steel link bracelet. Other strap choices are rubber in blue, red, orange or taupe and premium leather in brown, gray, blue, orange or khaki. For fans of bling, there’s a leather strap studded with Swarovski crystals. Of course, there’s always basic black.
The Asus ZenWatch 2 is expected to hit stores next month with a price tag of $150 to $200. That’s a pretty sweet price compared to the competition, especially for a smartwatch with such stylish design options.
