Ragazzo R1 Watch Review

Hands on Watch Reviews Independent Ragazzo

I have always liked the look of the wire lug system, and it fits in with the design of this watch, but unfortunately you will not be able to easily switch out the strap. The screws that hold the lugs in place are underneath the case back, meaning you will have to remove the case back to get to the screws, and then be able to remove them if you wish to change the strap. As somebody who likes to switch out the straps, I would have preferred the screws were on the back of the case, making them easily removable.

The dials on both models are black, with a slight texture to them, almost like a very light sand texture, which creates a nice look. The numbers of the rosetone version are much easier to see, which at first I didn’t realize why, as both models have tan colored hands and numbers. Upon closer inspection the black version uses applied metal numbers and markers, whereas the rose version uses painted numbers. With the double domed crystal, the light reflection on the metal markers on the pvd version, somewhat blacks them out in certain angles making it harder to see. For this reason, I prefer the rosetone version for readability.

The dial itself is very clean, with the 12, 3, 6, and 9 numerals larger than the rest, with the R1 logo under the 12 and no other writing on the dial. Neither version includes a date, nor luminescent paint applied to either of the dials as well.

Looking around to the case back, it is a nice flat and smooth finish back, which is screwed down. In the center you have the Ragazzo R1 logo.

The movement is a Swiss Ronda Quartz 513 with a 2-3 year battery. This is a dependable quartz movement, which should not cause the wearer any issues.

The double domed K1 mineral crystal makes it a little difficult to see the time at certain angles, especially on the black pvd version, but again, I think that is due to the applied markers. The crystal does have an AR coating, of which you can probably see the hue of it on the crystal in some of my photos. I am used to seeing doubled domed crystals on dive watches, in which the use of it is to make it easier to read while underwater, and they usually have very large and prominent hands and markers, making visibility a little better with that type of crystal. Some people love a double domed crystal, and for those that do, you will probably like the effect that this gives the R1. Personally, I would like to see a version of the R1 with a flat crystal for better readability. I think it would also show off the texture of the dial better.

I've been an avid watch lover since the age of 7. Watches are not only my hobby but a passion. My favorite style used to be dive watches, but field or non bezel watches have been growing on me. When I'm not reviewing watches I am either cooking or with family and friends.
