Jorg Gray JG6500 Commemorative Edition

Jorg Gray is a contemporary American brand that specializes in clean, classy watches at affordable price points. The brand has only been around for 15 years, but already has made their impact, as this was the brand that graced the wrist of Barak Obama on his first inauguration as President of the United States on January 20th 2009. The watch of the hour on that day was the Jorg Gray 6500 Chronograph.

For 2013, Jorg Gray released the JG6500 Commemorative Edition to celebrate that momentous occasion. This timepiece is released in a sparklingly, polished stainless steel case on genuine black leather, featuring white contrast stitching which adds a sporty aesthetic to this watch. The case measures in at a gentโ€™s size of 41mm in diameter, while rising 14.1mm off of the wrist for the case height. The bezel is fixed and holds a mineral crystal, which defends against nicks and scratches. The ridged main crown pulls out to two positions, which modify both the date and time.

The case back is solid stainless steel and this is screwed into position maintaining the water resistance of 100 meters (330 feet). On the case back is the inscription โ€œThe 44th President of the United States Barack H. Obama, January 20th 2009 Commemorative Editionโ€.

Jorg Gray is able to keep its pricing low partly due to the high precision Japanese Miyota quartz movement that is used to power the watch. Quartz is chosen as this is more accurate than a self-winding option. The dial is black with white elements, which complements the leather strap also accented with white stitching. The dial carries both Arabic numerals, and indexes for the hour markers, and a minute track located on the flange. The indexes are coated with lume, which allows for nighttime readability. All of the hands are crafted from black PVD steel, and these are also coated with lume. The subdial at 9 indicates the continuous seconds. The chronograph, which can time any event up to 24 hours, is displayed through subdials at 6, and 9 for the minutes and hours, and a central hand for the chronograph seconds. Completing the dial is a date aperture, rimmed in white, at the 4:30 position.

This Jorg Gray JG6500 Commemorative Edition retails worldwide for USD$395.
