Chanel J12 GMT
One of the greatest launches in watchmaking over the last decade was the J12 from Chanel. These watches took the world by storm and ushered in a new age of Ceramic. The Chanel J12 GMT is the first GMT model in the J12 collection. A GMT or Greenwich Mean Time is any watch which offers a secondary time zone.
The Chanel J12 GMT is made from black ceramic. Apart from the unique look that ceramic gives a piece, this material is virtually scratch proof ranking a 9 on the MoHโs scale coming in second only to diamond. Ceramic doesnโt fade and, conversely, doesnโt stain either. The case dimensions for this watch are 42mm for the diameter and 10mm for the case height. The 10mm case height is in itself a watchmaking feat as this watch does contain an automatic movement. This puts the J12 GMT into the class of ultra-thin watches. The bezel is fixed and features Arabic numerals and indexes in a 24 hour scale.
As stated before, the Chanel J12 GMT is driven by a self-winding mechanical movement made in the Chanel workshops at La-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. This movement is fitted with 21 rubies and beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour. This model carries a power reserve of 42 hours.
The dial is black and features hands and hour markers which have been coated with Super-LumiNova ensuring nighttime readability. The GMT hand has a red tip differentiating it from the other indictors on the dial. Large Arabic numerals are used as the hour markers on this watch. Both the hour markers and the hands contrast against the dial of the J12 GMT.
The bracelet is also from black ceramic and features a new buckle which is thinner, and shorter by 5mm adding to the comfort of wearing this watch. The clasp is triple deployant. The J12 GMT is water resistant to 100 meters (10 ATM) and is backed by a 2 year international warranty.
