The Aurora project is a fabled military aircraft that the United States allegedly began developing in secret back in the 1980s. This clandestine effort remains cloaked in mystery to this day but lovers of conspiracy theories remain convinced that the Aurora project exists—or did at one time. Maybe this plane never got off the ground, but it lives on in the imaginations of those who are devoted to stories of stealth operations.
It was this legendary aircraft that provided the inspiration for the new Aurora collection of watches for men from GV2. True to the mysterious nature of their namesake, the watches sport a stealthy black-on-black exterior. The 45mm, 316L stainless steel case is coated with black IP while the caseback bears an engraving of the stealth aircraft as it is rumored to appear.
The black dial with its semitransparent screen, white luminous tips on the hands and silver hour indexes carries out the superspy theme. Underneath the screen is the bilingual (English/German) day wheel and numerical date wheel. The GV2 logo is imprinted on the crystal below the 12 o’clock mark while the time and date appear in apertures on the right and left sides of the dial.
Watches in the Aurora collection contain Ronda 517 Swiss quartz movements and are Swiss made. All have an anti-reflective sapphire crystal and are water resistant to 330 feet.
If the black-on-black look is a bit too dark for your tastes, the watches in the Aurora collection are also available with bezels in silver, red, blue, orange or green. Models with black or silver bezels have minute indexes in silver while those in colors have matching indexes. All models come with a black silicone strap that sports a spiny vertebra at each lug end.
