Uniq P-47 Thunderbolt Watch Review and Video Review

Uniq’s P-47 Thunderbolt is a nice take on a pilot watch, at a large but manageable size. Using  elements from the P-47 Thunderbolt Plane itself, Uniq has captured the nostalgia and history into their design, especially with the subdials that were modeled to look like the P47’s cockpit.

Let’s start this review off with the very “Uniq” packaging they have used for this model. The watch arrives in an army green military style ammo box, complete with branding, giving you that cool factor when you first receive it. When you slide the lid off, you will find all your paperwork, instructions and warranty card, and below that the watch sits safely in a foam insert. Along with the leather strap that is attached to the watch, you get a nice black zulu style strap, giving you two strap options right out of the box. One of the things I like about this presentation box is it can be repurposed to use as a jewelry or strap box, which is better than having yet another box that sits in the closet collecting dust.

P-47 Thunderbolt is a big pilot’s Chronographm, dedicated to one of the legendary and successful aircrafts of all time, the P-47 Thunderbolt, which was designed by Georgian immigrant Alexander Kartveli. Special attention has been paid to the sub-dials which looks like a plane’s dashboard and are attached to the main dial by screws. As regards to the chronometer’s hands and indexes, they are identical to the real P-47 cockpit clock WALTHAM 8 day hands and indexes.

Lets move onto the dial, which is one of the most intriguing parts of the P47 Thunderbolt.

This dial is listed as black, but the main dial is more of a charcoal grey.  The subdials are a stark black, allowing you to read it easier and giving it a nice contrast. Large Arabic numbers surround the dial that are coated generously with superluminova paint.  The P47 utilizes large sword hour and minute hands with a very long and thin white second hand. One thing I appreciate is the use of the minute hand markers on the chapter ring, as opposed to trying to fit them in on the dial, which would have made for a very busy dial. The subdials themselves are attached using real screws. Not only does this show attention to detail, but helps it resemble the dial of a cockpit more closely. You have your date located at the 4 o’clock position, and even with large subsidials and numbers, is easily seen.
