The stainless steel case back is nicely engraved, and is relatively flat. This allows it to sit nicely on the wrist.
As mentioned earlier, this is a quartz chronograph movement, (Miyota OS10), and has a mineral crystal. While I always prefer sapphire, especially when the crystal is slightly domed, I am okay with it at this price point. Let’s face it; in the world of watches, there are not a ton of brands that are putting sapphire on watches of this price.
The lume is very good. Way better than I expected, it is very bright initially, but of course, like all lume, starts to fade in time. While it does noticeably fade after an hour of being charged, it is still easily readable for a few good hours.
The case, a vintage lugless style, with its 24mm lug opening, is very attractive. I am very fond of these styles of cases that companies started doing for the past year or two, and I see no reason for companies to stop. They give a different look and feel than the standard round or square watch and are also very comfortable on the wrist. This design lends itself to be worn by people with smaller wrists, even with a 46mm case.
The gray leather strap that comes with the 4101 is very soft and supple, with decorative stitching, and a thick brass plated buckle that is engraved as well. For those like me, that are into leather straps, I think you will be very satisfied. If you have a lot of 24mm straps lying around, you can really change up the looks as well. Brown, black, tan, etc. would go very well with this case/dial combo.
So, what is my final consensus on the Szanto 4100? I dig it. It comes in a nice presentation box, looks and feels good on the wrist, you get the aged brass/bronze look without any skin irritation or wait time, and beautiful sandwich dial for $350. Now of course that is full retail price, and if you are a smart shopper, you might be able to find it for cheaper, which of course would be even better.
I would say if you are a fan of the bronze look, but not sure about the metal itself or if it would be for you, maybe give the Szanto 4101 a look. They have two other variations as well, with a cream/white dial and a brown leather strap, (4102) and a brown dial with brown leather strap, (4103) if the black dial/gray strap combo is not for you.
Taking a look at the other Szanto models, they have a nice lineup with military and pilot styles, diver style and more. I am also told they have a true 500m diver in the works, so that is something I will be looking out for.
Thank you to Szanto for providing this model for review.
