This timepiece from Richard Mille has all of the talking points one would expect from such a renowned watchmaker. This sleek timepiece pays homage to Felipe Massa, who is known for his formula One racecar driving. Felipe Massa is Brazilian by birth and he currently drives for Ferrari. Massa has been racing since age 8 in go karting and since then has been prolific in both national and regional championships, which he has been winning for the last 7 years.
Richard Mille RM 011 Flyback Chronograph Felipe Massa is crafted in titanium, and features case dimensions of 50mm X 40mm for the length and width. This watch is quite thick carrying a case height of 16.15mm. The bezel is prominent and features the iconic star shaped screws that adorn most of Richard Mille’s creations. The case is shaped in a wider Tonneau style. The main crown is also prominent on this piece and it has a black rubber grip for easy setting of the date and time.
The chronograph uses lever push pieces labeled with start and stop for the pusher at two. The pusher at the four position is responsible for the Flyback function. Flyback chronographs are pretty rare as far as complications go, but can be found in aviation or racing themed watches.
The case back used is made from sapphire crystal, which allows the wearer to view the automatic Caliber RM 011-S movement. This movement offers a geometrical rotor, which not only is attractive but also is very efficient for winding. This movement comes equipped with 50 hours power reserve.
The dial is skeletonized offering a view of the movement from the top. True to its racing theme, this timepiece features a graduated tachometric scale on the flange. There is a small seconds counter at the six position, and two chronograph subdials at three and six with indicators in red and yellow – the colors of Ferrari. The date is highlighted with a red and white boarder just below the twelve o’clock position. Both the hands used for the main timekeeping functions, and the Arabic numerals used for the hour markers are coated with lume for nighttime readability. Protecting the dial is a scratch resistant sapphire crystal, with glare proofing on both sides.
