Monte Carlo Auction Offers Vintage Watches
Monte Carlo is the place to be for lovers of luxury items who are looking to add to their collections. The Parisian auction house Artcurial will be holding its annual summer sale July 20 โ 23 and a lavish selection of fabulous collectibles will be on the auction block.
The most noteworthy items include 11 limousines and sports cars once owned by the legendary opera singer Maria Callas, 92 vintage Hermรจs handbags and 800 lots of jewelry and watches from the most famous luxury brands.
The 500 lots of jewelry being offered for auction include pieces from Cartier, Boucheron, Bulgari, Van Cleef & Arpels and other Parisian jewelry houses. Items range from Art Deco to rare pieces from the 1960s to contemporary jewels.
Bidders will be able to choose from 300 vintage timepieces from luxury watchmakers like Rolex, Cartier, Patek Philippe, Breguet, Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin. Of special interest are a pair of Breguet subscription watches that were part of the 200th anniversary of the brand back in 1991. The two, a wristwatch and a pocket watch, are expected to bring in $220,000 to $280,000.
Also for sale is a set of Rolex watches dating from the 1930s to the present that are expected to sell for $2,200 to $112,000. One set likely to arouse spirited bidding is a collection of seven Rolex models that includes a rare Daytona โPaul Newmanโ from 1971 and a Cosmograph Daytona model. Expect to pay $67,000 to $101,000 for the former and $45,000 to $67,000 for the latter.
Also of interest to collectors of fine timepieces are 50 signed pieces from the house of Cartier ranging in age from the 1930s to the present.
The watches will be auctioned off July 20 โ 21 while the jewelry will go on the block July 22 -23. The sale will take place at the Hรดtel Hermitage in Monte Carlo.
