Marloe Motorsport 25

In a world dominated by dive watches, field watches, and pilot watches, it’s nice to see something a little different, and that’s exactly what this Marloe Motorsport 25 is. While motorsports or automotive-inspired watches aren’t new by any means, they are still rare compared to the styles mentioned above. This is the second automotive watch I have reviewed in the past few months, the last one from Zelos, and while both have unique features, especially on the dial, both are very different. This Marloe is part of a new collection with two versions: this green and yellow, and a black and red dial dubbed the 105. The case is from their Conisiton model with an all-new gauge-inspired dial that features a redline indicator for a little bit of whimsy, and this is a multi-piece dial with an interesting lume “moat”. Both models use the Miyota 8N24 automatic movement and are sized at 41, with a price starting at $459.

What I like about this Marloe Motorsport 25 the most is that they kept the gimmick, if you will, to the dial. The case is the same as the other Coniston models, but here you have the gauge-inspired dial and hands, with that redline indicator between the 10 and 12 indices, along with the 60 dial. Even though it’s very racing-inspired, it’s still not hard to tell time, obviously, and it makes the dial fun and stand out. Speaking of standing out, while the black and red model may be more akin to everyday where, I do love the green and yellow of this dial, as its just not a color combo seen often and these colors were taken from a Scottish Forumla 1 care with the number 25, and its just a great dial color that pops.

Zooming in on the details, you can see the green thick baton hour hand and that radial center part both hands are attached to, which again, replicates early car gauges. The dial is a true multi-piece dial that scalloped outer ring and prominent hour tabs displayed on it, and underneath that, you have the luminous moat. Yes, the numbers on the dial do not glow (wouldn’t be helpful anyway), but the hour and minute hands are as well as that moat. With the redline indicator and it being a gauge-inspired dial, Marloe decided to go no date, keeping that racing theme aesthetic.

The case of the Marloe Motorsport 25 (and the 105) is the same as their Coniston collection. It’s a 41mm case with a rather slim profile and all highly polished, including that bezel edge, which is knurled for grip, though it doesn’t matter as the bezel, of course, does not turn as it’s there for just aesthetic purposes. The polishing is great, but I would have preferred something all brushed or brushed with just a hint of high polish. Most probably know that I am not a fan of all highly polished watches, it’s just a preference, but even I admit that it does look good, and doesn’t seem to show scratches or fingerprints like some others do.

The cup shaped crown does not screw down, which honestly I wasn’t expecting it to with a watch such as this, but it would have been a welcome surprise. Still, this piece is rated to 100m of water resistance, but I wouldn’t be jumping in the pool or lake with it. The crown has good lines on it for grip, though, and does have a satisfying click when pushed back in.

Around the back of the Marloe Motorsport 25, you can see the gold-plated Miyota 8N24. As I mentioned in the video, yes I would have preferred a Miyota 9000 series movement, but this newer 8000 series does hack and has anti-shock built in, and while the accuracy wont be as good as Miyota 9039 as an example, I think using this movement helped Marloe keep the price down and even though I prefer solid case backs for the most part, I will say I do like the all gold movement, as at least its better than looking at the plain silver variant. I also like the info ring on the inside of the crystal, keeping the outer polished edge clean. It just gives it a more distinct look to the case back.

And here is a look at that luminous “moat” as Marloe puts it, which is an inner track from under the main dial, all filled up with lume, and you’ll notice certain hour markers are lumed as well, and the hour and minute hands. Not only does it look unique in the dark with this setup, but it retains the brightness for 4-5 hours easily.

Marloe offers a very large assortment of straps for this piece, as they do with almost every watch they sell. This one is the Green Ridged Silicone. It looks nice with the green and yellow dial, and it’s a fairly attractive strap equipped with quick release pins, but yes, it will attract the dust and lint as it is silicone after all. Fortunately, they also do offer an FKM green rubber as well as leather, nylon, and even a metal bracelet.

On my 7 1/2 inch (19.5cm) wrist, the Marloe Motorsport 25 not only looks good, but the 41mm size is perfect for my wrist and very comfortable. If I were to wear this regularly, I would switch out the strap, especially with the summer months coming. Again, you can order it with any of the 13 straps they offer for it.

One thing I have always liked about Marloe is that they have no problem with being different. Be it their take on a dive watch, a pilot watch, or this racing-inspired piece, all their watches have a uniqueness about them that does not go unnoticed by this reviewer. This style of watch is probably more for the niche collector, whether they like racing or just like to have different styles of watches in their collection. For me, this would probably be something I wore occasionally rather than a daily wear piece, but that’s not to say you couldn’t wear this piece daily. It’s comfortable and attractive, and with that 100m of water resistance, you don’t need to worry about getting caught in the rain or washing the dishes with it. And if you are one who loves cars, especially race cars, this is a fun piece you would probably enjoy, and it’s rather affordable as well, with a price under $500.
