Certina DS Podium GMT
With a history that goes back as far as 1888, the Swiss brand Certina has been around for a long time. Certina has built a reputation for delivering solid watches that are not heavy in the price department. This business outlook has helped the company survive 2 great recessions and the quartz revolution during the 70’s. Certina continues today to build a strong demand for its sport watches which are not only handsome but also resilient and functional.
The case on this model, ref. C001.639.16.057.01, is black PVD stainless steel. PVD treatment is used to ensure that the black color doesn’t fade with time or chip. PVD (Phosphor Vapor Deposition) also strengthens the steel making it more scratch resistant. On the slim, stationary bezel is a graduated tachymeter scale which records average speed over a given distance. The main crown is ridged allowing for the effortless changes to the date and time.
Protecting the dial is a clear sapphire crystal. Sapphire crystal has become the industry standard in the Swiss watchmaking industry due to its high rank on the MoH’s scale which is an index of hardness. The dial itself is black, and features a few Arabic numeral at the 12, 3, and 9 positions. Certina uses hour markers at the other positions. There is a luminous coating on all of the hour markers and the hands displaying the minutes and hours.
The chronograph function is indicated by the yellow hands and their respective subdials. Coming in at the 6 position is the true seconds register and a small date aperture. As the name suggests, the DS Podium GMT offers a second time zone. This complication can be viewed through a subdial at 10 and is indicated by means of a unique yellow triangle. The subdial scale is halved in black and white representing the day and night.
The DS Podium GMT carries a carbon fiber strap and is clasped using a triple deployant buckle. This timepiece is fitted with a Swiss made quartz precision movement. This handsome watch is water resistant to 50 meters (165 feet).
