Lange & Sohne stands as one of the most prolific watchmakers of our time with their smooth lines and easy-to-read dial layouts. The manufacturer is decidedly German is design, with their offset subdials and pristine aesthetics.
The Lange 1 Time Zones is a very functional piece which indicates home time, a secondary time zone or GMT, and the time for any city in the world. The latter is done through a rotating ring on the flange which displays 24 major cities across the world, representing each of the time zones. A. Lange & Sohne allows the wearer to set the time zones by using two pushers at the 10 and 8 positions. The pusher at 10 advances the ring in a clockwise direction while the pusher at 8 rotates the ring in the opposite direction. This is achieved using a 67 part correction system. Leaving nothing to chance, this manufacturer slants the city ring by an angle of 10 degrees towards the outside, negating the shadow effect and making the ring easier to read.
On the dial, the largest subdial indicates the home time with luminous, modified dauphine hands. On this dial is a day/night indicator located at its 12 position, and a small seconds register at its 6, indicated using blued steel hands. The secondary time zone is located at the general 5 o’clock position and this complication also features a day/night indicator. At the 3 position is a power reserve indicator styled in retrograde format. This watch carries large double digit date display at 2, completing this dial. A. Lange & Sohne proudly proclaims that this model is made in Germany on the dial at 7.
This timepiece is powered by an in house Lange movement Calibre L031.1 which is manual mechanical wound and will deliver a minimum of 3 days of power reserve when fully wound. The ¾ main plate movement is decorated using Cotes de Genève. This watch is fitted with classic lever escapement and a Glucydur balance spring which oscillates at 21,600 alternations per hour. There is also a whiplash precision index adjuster and a patented beat adjustment mechanism.
The Lange 1 Time Zones is offered in white gold, rose gold, or platinum and comes in a masculine size of 41.9mm for the diameter and 11.1mm for the case height. Sapphire crystal is used on either side of this watch; on the case back, revealing the movement, and also as the dial window shielding the silvered dial against the elements.
