Nixon to Release Rock LTD Collection

Some baby boomers never really grew up but they did get older and richer, which makes them a prime target for rock โ€˜nโ€™ roll memorabilia. Now the boutique watch and accessories brand Nixon will give well-heeled fans the chance to wear a little piece of their favorite rock gods on their wrist with the proceeds going to a very worthy cause.

Itโ€™s no secret that many famous and not so famous musicians have struggled with substance abuse, which is why the Recording Academyโ€”the folks who hand out the Grammys every yearโ€”founded the MusiCares MAP Fund. This charity provides treatment for members of the music community that need help in recovering from addiction. The fund will be getting a boost from sales of items from Nixonโ€™s Rock LTD Collection.

Starting in mid-November, Nixon will begin selling this limited-edition collection of watches sporting leather straps made from jackets, boots and other items donated by superstars like Keith Richards, Ringo Starr, Ozzy Osbourne, Pete Townshend and Tom Waits. Proceeds from the sales of these watches, which will be priced at $1,000 to $4,000, will go to the MusiCares MAP Fund.

The fact that the donated items have been worn, and in some cases, nearly worn out, by some of rockโ€™s most legendary names lends a special cachet to the watches in the Rock LTD Collection. Nixon co-founder gave his take on why the leather bands are so unique. โ€œItโ€™s always better to get a well-traveled leather jacket than one right off the shelf. Weโ€™ll try to find unique elements, such as the buckle on Tom Waitsโ€™ boot. Those are the pieces that make them really original, rare and captures the spirit.โ€

Each watch from the Nixon Rock LTD Collection will bear a number and include a certificate of authenticity. These watches will not be available online but will be sold at several high-end retailers including Barneys, Fred Segal and Selfridges.
