Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Watch Review

ย  Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra

This Omega watch rivals and surpasses the Rolex Milgauss for magnetic resistance. The Aqua Terra can withstand up to 15,000 gauss, whereas the Rolex can withstand a total of 1,000 gauss. The problem of magnetism has plagued watchmakers for quite some time. This watch is designed for usage near power plants and labs like CERN in Geneva (the Large Hadron Collider).

The Seamaster Aqua Terra is manufactured in durable, satin finished and polished stainless steel with a case diameter of 41.5mm. The main crown is ridged in classic Seamaster design for fast and accurate modifications of the time and date. The fixed bezel holds firmly the sapphire crystal responsible for defense against dust and moisture on the dial. Sapphire is chosen also for its scratch resistant nature which will maintain the aesthetic value of this piece.

Perhaps the most intriguing feature about this watch is the fact that it can resist an incredible amount of gauss, yet is not fitted with an inner lining. Omega achieves this by creating the movement itself as anti magnetic. This allows Omega to show off the movement through an exhibition case back. The movement running this timepiece is the self-winding mechanical Caliber 8508. The 8508 is fitted with the world renowned Co-axial escapement which guarantees greater precision over time. The Aqua Terra is a certified chronometer by the Swiss watchmaking bureau โ€“ the COSC. The COSC awards timepieces the appellation of chronometer when the watch is accurate to -4/+6 seconds per day over two weeks. Omega finishes the movement with snailing on the oscillating rotor and main plate for simply gorgeous timepiece both inside and out.

The dial is a striated black and it features striking index hour markers, and luminous hour and minute hands for legibility at night. The iconic central seconds hand is hued in both black and yellow making this watch instantly recognizable. At the 3 position resides a date display window. A minute track is located on the flange using yellow demarcations in Arabic numerals.

This watch is water resistant to a depth of 150 meters (15 ATM) and is offered in two versions โ€“ on stainless steel bracelet; and on a brown leather strap with white contrast stitching. Omega offers a 4 year warranty with the purchase of this tremendous timepiece.

Is this a special edition Aqua Terra with the high gauss or are all Aqua Terra models similarly protected? I bought a Seamaster Aqua Terra about 5 years ago but don’t remember seeing any mention of this “feature”.
