What is a watch Tourbillon?

– A Tourbillon is an addition to the mechanics of a watch escapement. The tourbillon was first developed by the French-Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet around 1795. A tourbillon aims to counter the effects of gravity by mounting the escapement and balance wheel in a rotating cage, to negate the effect of gravity when the timepiece is stuck in a certain position. Tourbillons work by creating multiple variances on the escapement, which cancel each other out.

Tourbillons exist in four different forms:

     – Double-Axis Tourbillon

     – Double and Quadruple Tourbillon

     – Triple-Axis Tourbillon

     – Flying Tourbillon
