– A screw down, or screw locked crown, aids in the water resistance of a watch by providing a watertight seal. To lock the crown, the wearer must simultaneously push in the crown and turn it in a clockwise direction. To unlock it, one only has to unscrew it in the opposite direction. Only when the crown is unlocked can the time be adjusted or the watch wound.
