Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Diver Chronograph
Since 1846 Ulysse Nardin has manufactured exceptional and ultra-functional timepieces. The brand is named after its founder who was an accomplished watch maker. Nardin learnt from the best in the business including Frederic William Dubois, and Louis JeanRichard-Dit-Bressel. The brand has, this year, 167 years of experience in producing excellence. By far, their most sought after pieces have been their Marine Chronometers. Ulysse Nardin is not a brand that everyone has heard of; this is mainly due to the fact that Ulysse does not mass produce their timepieces.
The Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Diver Chronograph comes in both stainless steel and 18kt rose gold and features a diameter of 42.7mm, which is a perfect size for most men. One of the most unique things about the watch is the stainless steel or 18kt rose gold insert that is present on the thick vulcanized black rubber strap. This has been, perhaps, the most striking and easily recognizable feature of the Maxi Marine Diver Collection.
The bezel is notched and is also ratcheted for its smooth operation. Unidirectional bezels have become a staple of any fine diving watch. The bezel is coated with black rubber, decorated in waves which add texture to this glorious piece. There is a pearl at the 12 position which is luminous and is used by divers to orient and calculate the elapsed time while under water. The graduated scale on the bezel is featured in rose gold or stainless steel with black Arabic numerals. The main crown and pushers are decorated with black titanium which serves to complement the general theme of this watch.
The dial colors offered by Ulysse Nardin for the Maxi Marine Diver Collection are black, white, and blue. The 30 minute chronograph uses a central hand for the chronograph seconds and a white subdial for the minutes. At the 9 oโclock position is located the small seconds subdial. The hands indicating the hours and minutes are partially skeletonized and with the indexes, offer Lume for legibility during low light conditions. The hour markers and hands are rendered in 18kt rose gold or rhodium tone which stand out against the dark background of the dial. At the 6 position there is a circular date aperture.
Ulysse Nardin uses a self-winding mechanical movement with a power reserve with approximately 42 hours. The crystal is crafted from sapphire which is noted for its scratch resistant properties. The rubber strap is fitted with a deployant clasp which is thought to be one of the more dependable clasps in Swiss watchmaking. As a diving watch, the Maxi Marine Diver Chronograph is water resistant to 200 meters (660 feet).
