This Bulgari Watch Can Control Your Life
What’s even smarter than a smartwatch? How about a luxury watch that can make secure payments, take the place of your keys and control your home alarm system? That’s what Bulgari has created with the Diagono Magnesium watch, which can store practically everything about your life in a hopefully-secure cloud.
The latest luxury timepiece from Italian jeweler Bulgari may look like your average lust-inducing fine watch but this one has a secret. Bulgari has teamed up with Swiss digital security and data storage firm WISeKey to use NFC (near field communication) technology that can turn the Diagono Magnesium watch into a futuristic “key” that opens the Bulgari Vault, a secure smartphone application.
The Bulgari Vault may be unlocked by holding the user’s smartphone in close proximity to the watch. Once the vault is opened, the user can add personal and financial data that will be accessed only by the watch because it is encrypted, then stored at military bunkers in the Swiss Alps. Bulgari promises that all data like passwords, codes and credit card numbers is protected from hackers by WISeKey technology.
Once the data has been stored in this super duper Swiss locker, users can use the watch to access plane tickets, activate their home alarm system, make secure payments and remotely unlock car doors.
The price for all this intrigue is $4,600, which isn’t so bad if the Diagono Magnesium watch can make your life easier by not having to carry so much junk around. Unfortunately, the price of traveling light could be an expensive security breach.
While this all sounds like the fantasy dream watch of a James Bond fan, less romantic customers are likely to be dubious of the supposed high level of security. Is there anything that a hacker can’t get into these days?
