TAG Heuer Carrera Automatic Day Date Caliber 16
TAG Heuer has been the progenitor of some of the world’s most beloved timepieces. Very near the top of that list is the Carrera. Carrera’s are typically racing inspired watches with their easy to read dials and the usual inclusion of a tachymeter. Tachymeters are used with chronographs to calculate mean speeds over a given distance, usually 1 mile or 1km.
This timepiece is manufactured in solid stainless steel and it carries a case diameter of 43mm. The fixed bezel is in black PVD steel and it displays the tachymeter in white for excellent readability. The pusher at the 2 position carries a distinctive red mark indicating it is the start/stop. The main crown is ridged and screw locked maintaining the water resistance of 100 meters (330 feet). TAG Heuer guarantees the water resistance on each of their models due to the rigorous testing that each model undergoes.
The renowned caliber 16 movement powers this model with a startling degree of accuracy. This movement features a rapid day and date correction system. The movement also boasts a power reserve of approximately 42 hours once fully wound. The balance wheel alternates at a constant 28,800 VpH which is geared towards precision timing. The oscillating rotor features Cotes de Genève for decoration on this model. This movement is revealed through the exhibition sapphire crystal case back.
The dial features an open flange design which in essence is a more prominent flange indicating the chronograph seconds with the use of large Arabic numerals. The true seconds counter is located at the 9 position, while the chrono minutes and hours are located in totalizers at the 12 and 6 positions respectively. Another great feature on this model is the day/date aperture at 3.
Securing this watch to the wrist is a stainless steel bracelet with an alternating brushed and polished finish. The bracelet is equipped with a double deployant clasp with release push buttons. TAG Heuer uses sapphire crystal on the dial window which is excellent at resisting scratches. The TAG Heuer Caliber 16 Day/Date is backed by a warranty valid for two years from the date of purchase.
