The Omega Sochi Petrograd is inspired by a watch that was created decades ago and now rests in the Omega museum collection. This watch is truly different from almost every other Omega timepiece because of its unique Tonneau shape. This model is the flagship piece, commemorating the Winter Olympics which is being held in Sochi, Russia this year. This model comes in a limited series of only 100 pieces globally. Like the other two limited edition models commemorating the games, this timepiece uses a red, white, and blue color scheme; paying homage to the Russian flag.
This gorgeous timepiece is case in 18kt rose gold with a beveled bezel, and a flattened onion crown. The bezel houses a sapphire crystal, chosen for its highly scratch resistant properties. The case back carries the official Sochi Winter games logo, and inscriptions stating that this watch is fitted with the award winning Co-Axial movement. The case back also gives the individual limited number (XXX/100).
The dial is very straight forward with easy readability its first priority. The dial is silvered and it features a twenty-four hour scale in printed red Arabic numerals on the flange. The highly stylized hour markers are also rendered in black Arabic numerals giving this watch a vintage feel. The hands are blued steel, which contrast wonderfully against the silvered dial. As a dress watch, this piece carries no luminescence and is devoid of a date aperture. At the 6 position there is a small seconds register, which is cushion shaped to best complement the shape of the case.
As stated before, this watch is outfitted with an automatic movement which carries the Co-Axial escapement. Omega watches with this type of escapement are guaranteed to perform better over a longer time period. This movement is highly decorated. Securing this elegant timepiece to the wrist, is a striking burgundy alligator leather strap, with red complimentary saddle stitching and is stamped with the Omega logo on the reverse side. This burgundy strap uses a tang type buckle for security. The Omega Sochi Petrograd is guaranteed for a period of four years from the date of purchase.
