Panerai proudly presents the Luminor 1950 8 Days GMT 44mm, which uses the first in house Panerai movements. The movement used in this watch is the Calibre P.2002, which is the precursor to the P.2000 line of movements. The P.2000 movements get their numerical identity from the year that Panerai decided to start making movements in house, thus adding their name to a short list of true watch manufacturers.

The 247 components of the P.2002 are completely made in Panerai’s workshops, and are assembled by master watchmakers that strive only for perfection. The movement measures 13 ¼ ‘’’ (lignes), and stands 6mm tall. Panerai employs a state-of-the-art Glucydur balance wheel, which beats uncompromisingly at a rate of 28,800 VpH. To protect against damage from shocks, this Swiss manufacturer uses a KIF Parechoc anti-shock device. The movement also carries a seconds reset device.

The case is inspired by a line that the company released in 1950. Today’s model carries many new upgrades. The case is 44mm in its diameter, and is crafted from 316L stainless steel, which is finely brushed for a very understated finish. The bezel is polished, framing the dial. The bezel also holds a 2mm thick sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating protecting the dial. Sapphire is chosen as the industry standard because of its high resistance to scratches. The screw locked crown is held in place by the crown guard which adorns so many of Panerai’s creations.

The dial is black with luminous Arabic numerals and indexes. The piece de resistance on this watch comes in the 8 day power reserve indicator which is unique as it moves on a linear graduated scale from right (full) to left (empty). At the 9 position is the second time zone. The date comes in an aperture at 3 o’clock adding balance to the dial.

The Officine Panerai Luminor 1950 8 Days GMT 44mm comes with two interchangeable straps – a black calfskin leather, and a black rubber strap. A stainless steel screwdriver is supplied to conveniently make the change. This sturdy timepiece is water resistant to 100 meters (330 feet).

  1. I love Panerais but unfortunately they are not prepared to support the US Market. I have my watch under service for three months and they can’t even get me an estimate time to repair it. Service order 11044899
