While the rest of us must wait until April 24 (or later) to strap on the new Apple Watch, the rich and famous are cutting to the front of the line as usual. Several A-listers are already wearing their own golden Apple Watch Edition models even though the shipping date for these pricey goodies stretches out into the summer.

On Wednesday, an assistant to Karl Lagerfeld posted an Instagram shot of the Chanel designer wearing a yellow gold version of the Apple Watch Edition along with his trademark fishnet gloves. According to MacRumors, Apple gifted Lagerfeld with the timepiece, which includes a one-of-a-kind custom gold link bracelet. Estimated price for this golden treasure? Approximately $25,000.

Will having Lagerfeldโ€™s signature of approval make Appleโ€™s smartwatch a must for the haute couture set? Thatโ€™s what some insiders are guessing and we can expect to see more handpicked trendsetters being photographed wearing the Apple Watch over the next few weeks.

Pop star Katy Perry is another early adapter to post an Instagram pic of her own brand new Apple Watch Edition, this one with a lipstick red band and Mickey Mouse face. Perry captioned the photo: โ€œOh Mickey you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind, hey Mickey!โ€ This fine piece is available for order now at the Apple online store but with a price tag of $17,000 and a waiting time of two months.

Red looks like the hot color for trendy musical types as Drake was seen sporting another red-banded Apple Watch with sweat suit to match at the Coachella music (and fashion) festival last weekend. Another boldface name showing off the new gadget was Pharrell, who was seen wearing an Apple Watch with white band as he did his judging gig on the TV show โ€œThe Voice.โ€

These photos must have other status-seeking types frantically trying to get Tim Cook on the phone or screaming at their underpaid lackeys to go out and find them an Apple Watch ASAP. Alas, B-C-and D-listers will have to get in line like everyone else.
