Louis Vuitton Creates Escale Worldtime for Only Watch Auction
The house of Louis Vuitton was originally best known for the luxury leather luggage that no world traveler would leave home without but these days the brand has expanded into creating timepieces that are equally memorable. Especially unforgettable is the unique watch that Louis Vuitton has contributed to the Only Watch auction coming up in the fall.
The timepiece is entitled โEscale Worldtime, The world is a dancefloor.โ This phrase perfectly describes the design of the watch, which features a pattern of colored squares with the look of a fanciful dancefloor. The piece was created in collaboration with Paul Pettavino, who also designed the five watches previously donated to the Only Watch Auction by the house of Louis Vuitton.
The colorful and ornate design of the dial owes its look to bright shades applied with a miniature painting technique. The result evokes dreams of world travel, a theme carried out by the unique โWorldtimeโ feature devised by la Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. The Escale Worldtime watch shows the time in 24 different time zones by the use of three mobile discs.
The back of the watch will carry the engraving โOnly Watch 2015 Nยฐ1/1โ as a guarantee of its one-of-a-kind status. The โEscale Worldtime, The world is a dancefloorโ watch is packaged inside a trunk featuring a Damier Graphite canvas hand-painted with โThe world is a dancefloorโ design.
This Louis Vuitton masterpiece joins pieces from over 40 luxury watchmakers for the sixth biennial Only Watch Auction that takes place in Geneva on November 7 with proceeds going to benefit Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research. All watches are unique creations that are certain to bring in hefty sums from well-heeled fanciers of fine luxury timepieces.
