Lapo Elkann Brings Italian Spirit to Hublot
As the grandson of Fiat founder Gianni Agnelli, having a sense of style came easily to Lapo Elkann. Now the auto scion is bringing his bold creativity to the collaboration between Fiatโs eyewear company Italia Independent and luxury watchmaker Hublot.
Elkann spoke to the UK Telegraph about the partnership. โWe have a lot in common with Hublot,โ he said. โNot only in our colours and patterns, but in the way we carry out research. Our penchant for innovation sometimes comes from other design worlds, such as the car industry.โ
One outstanding example of this innovation is the Hublot Big Bang UNICO Italia Independent, which Elkann calls โExtraordinary.โ The watch owes its unique look to a new material called Texalium that allows vivid colors and textures to be incorporated into carbonfire compounds.
Thereโs a definite edge to the Hublot Big Bang UNICO Italia Independent, from its skeletonised dial and matte finish to the titanium studs adorning the denim strap. As Elkann explained, โStuds give the watch a rock โnโ roll soul, adding character.โ
Elkannโs eclectic tastes also show in his advice about which watch to wear with any given outfit. โI would not be adamant about a sports watch having to be paired with a casual, dressdown look,โ he said. โThat same watch could be perfectly paired with a tuxedo, or with an evening outfit for a woman.โ
The mating of Hublot and Italia Independent should produce more interesting timepieces and other accessories bearing the iconic influence of Fiat sports cars.
Citizen Named Watch Brand of the Year
Congratulation to Citizen for being chosen Watch Brand of the Year at the recent 2015 UK Jewellery Awards which took place at a summer event space located in the moat of the Tower of London. Citizen took the award over fellow finalists Casio, Nomos Glashutte, Seiko and Storm London. Pre-owned watch specialist Watchfinder took the award for Watch Retailer of the Year.
