The Ferrari has been a coveted dream car for 60 years in the U.S. and the iconic Italian automaker celebrated the anniversary in style this weekend. Swiss luxury watch brand Hublot was on hand to honor Ferrari with a very special limited edition timepiece. What could be more decadent than the combo of Ferrari and Hublot?
The two luxury brands first partnered in 2011, so it was no surprise that Hublot took part in a weekend-long celebration in Los Angeles honoring Ferrari vehicles on the 60th anniversary of the legendary sports car coming to the U.S. The festivities kicked off with a gala dinner at the Peterson Automotive Museum hosted by Hublot Chairman and Watch Division of LVMH Group President Jean-Claude Biver, who gave a talk on the luxury industry. The room was decorated by a collection of classic Ferraris spanning six decades. At the end of the evening, Biver unveiled the “Big Bang Ferrari 60th Anniversary in North America” timepiece and presented a Hublot wall clock to Peterson Auto Museum Founder Bruce Meyer.
The weekend also included a dinner and auction to benefit the Italian charity “DayBreak” on Saturday, October 11 and a showcase of over 500 Ferraris on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills on Sunday, October 12. The latter was highlighted by a Hublot pop-up location that allowed guests to view the most popular Ferrari watches of the pricey partnership.
The “Big Bang Ferrari Limited Edition 60th Anniversary in North America” watch combines the style and performance of the automaker with the innovation and technology of the Hublot brand. The 45mm timepiece honors the U.S. flag, as well as the famous Ferrari signature, proudly with colors of red, white and blue. A case of black carbon fiber showcases a flyback chronograph UNICO movement that can be seen through the sapphire dial. The case back is engraved with the image of Ferrari’s iconic Prancing Horse and the exclusive signature “1954-2014: Ferrari celebrates 60 Years in USA.”
Hublot developed the UNICO movement specially to power the Big Bang Ferrari watch, and with 330 components, column wheel and dual horizontal coupling, it’s truly worthy of its automotive namesake. The indexed crown sports elongated push buttons positioned along a rolling axis to resemble car pedals plus decorative carbon inserts. The watch has 72 hours of power reserve and is water resistant to 100 meters. Included with each watch are interchangeable straps of blue Schedoni leather stitched in white atop black rubber.
The Hublot “Big Bang Ferrari Limited Edition 60th Anniversary in North America” timepiece is certainly the perfect gift for the man who has everything, including his own Ferrari. Of course, the watch and the car together would be an even better gift! What teenage boy hasn’t dreamed of owning a Ferrari someday? Of course, it would be red and the supermodel of his choice would be sitting at his side. Now he can have the watch that’s fit to complete this American dream—provided he grew up to be a millionaire.
