Chloë Sevigny Stars in Apple Watch Ad
Actress and style icon Chloë Sevigny shows off the fashionable side of the Apple Watch in a new 15-second ad. The spot is one more effort by Apple to brand the smartwatch as more chic than geek.
In the ad, Sevigny manages to change into eight different outfits ranging from a sporty moto jacket with denim crop top to a cozy cocoon coat, all in just 15 seconds. Of course, each outfit is accessorized with an Apple Watch sporting a band chosen to match or coordinate with the ensemble. This quick-change act is accomplished to the tune of the song “Gold” by Kiiara.
This is certainly not the first time that Apple has joined forces with the fashion industry to promote its first smartwatch. Back in March, Apple took over Vogue’s March issue with a 12-page spread introducing the Apple Watch just as the wearable device was going on sale in a limited number of fashionable retailers like L.A.’s Maxfield. More recently the tech giant collaborated with the legendary design house Hermès to create a line of Apple Watches selling for $1,100 to $1,500.
Running this ad now in the period leading up to the lucrative holiday shopping season is just another example of perfect timing by Apple, which has long been known for savvy marketing. This will be the first time the Apple Watch has been available during the gift-giving season since the device was introduced in fall 2014 but did not hit stores until spring 2015.
That means the time from now until the end of the year is crucial to positioning the Apple Watch as the leader in its field, a field that grows more crowded by the week as both tech companies and Swiss watch brands introduce their own wearable devices.
