Casio Debuts $6,000 G-Shock MR-G
Earlier this week Casio introduced two new solar powered watches for runners, both with very reasonable price tags. Now the brand known for quartz sports watches has a limited edition timepiece aimed at the fancier of luxury timepieces.
The limited edition Basel special version of the G-Shock MR-G. dubbed the MRGG1000RT-1A, was designed at the Casio Yamagata factory in Japan and is crafted with Titanium 64, a new titanium alloy treatment. Casio claims that the composition of 90% titanium, 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium makes Ti64 seven times harder than pure titanium.
Adding to the toughness of this watch is the “Japan Blue” DLC treatment on the case, bracelet, front screws and crown. The MR-G Basel limited edition also comes with anti-glare sapphire glass and a re-crystallized bezel inspired by a Japanese sword pattern. The resulting bezel and metal plate sport a distinctive rich, glowing finish.
The 56mm Casio MRGG1000RT-1A also has impressive features on the inside including shock resistance, water resistance to 200M, latitude indicator, airplane mode, daily alarm, full auto calendar, day/date display, 24-hour countdown timer and 1/20th second stopwatch. The MR-G Basel limited edition is powered by Casio’s Tough Solar and features the hybrid technology of GPS and Multiband 6 for accurate timekeeping anywhere in the world.
The Casio G-Shock MR-G GPS Atomic Solar Hybrid Basel Special Limited Edition MRGG1000RT-1A will be available in September for $6,000.00 USD. Sure, that’s a fancy price tag for a Casio watch but this would make a really nice holiday gift for the lover of G-Shock models or a sports-minded luxury watch collector who needs a timepiece that’s super-tough. The watch will be sold at select jewelers and G-Shock.com.
