Beyonce Latest Celeb to Sport Apple Watch

The game of one-ups-manship is on as celebrities flaunt their exclusive Apple Watches that are not available to mere mortals—even the mortals who can afford to drop $10,000 or more at the Maxfield boutique on Friday when the heavily-hyped devices officially go on sale.

Pop superstar Beyonce was spotted at the recent Coachella music festival flashing an ultra-rare Apple Watch Edition on her wrist. What sets Beyonce’s Apple Watch apart from those for sale to the public is that it has a gold link bracelet. This is similar to the golden Apple Watch seen on fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld last week, which has been estimated to be worth about $25,000.

No doubt this will have other boldface names clamoring for the same watch rather than those ordinary models selling for a mere $17,000 but they may be out of luck if this is an ultra-limited edition that Apple has created just for a chosen few celebrities. On the other hand, Apple could be planning to reveal the even more expensive Edition with gold bracelet after testing the response from the public after seeing the watch on famous folk like Beyonce and style icons like Lagerfeld.

It’s also possible that the gold bracelet will join the selection of leather bands as an option for the Apple Watch Edition—a very pricey option. There are definitely more designs in the works an Apple’s Jony Ive showed off a few of them at a fashion launch in Milan over the weekend but those were just Sport bands in limited edition colors like red, yellow and dark blue.

The fact that Apple has more designs up its sleeve would seem to make the upcoming official on-sale day a bit less dramatic. If you can’t walk into Maxfield in L.A. (the one and only U.S. outlet for the Apple Watch) on Friday and buy the same model Beyonce wears, where is the fun in spending $10,000 to $17,000 on a status symbol?
