Rugged, strong, irreproachably functional โ just some of the words that spring to mind when looking at this work of art. The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver in white ceramic stands as the quintessential diving watch that is so versatile it can literally be worn for any occasion.
The new Offshore Diver for this year is made from white ceramic. Ceramic is chosen by this esteemed brand due to its virtual 100% scratch resistance and it being both lighter and stronger than steel. High tech ceramic is so wondrous in its many applications that it is reserved for watches that demand durability.
Audemars Piguet highlights 8 polished hexagonal, titanium screws along the iconic octagonal bezel. The watch also features a screw locked main crown at 3 and an adjuster at 10, which control the internal rotating bezel. AP relies on this type of bezel as it less likely to be inadvertently moved during dives. The Internal bezel rotates only in a counterclockwise direction allowing for the measurement of elapsed time to occur. On the bezel, the area between 12 and 3 is colored in bark blue, which shows up great against the white background of the dial. Matching this area is the minutes hand, which also carries a significant coating of lume for both diving and legibility of the time at night.
The watch boasts a hand crafted guilloche dial in a Mega Tapisserie motif. Each of the hour markers and hands are all coated with lume and are prominent on the dial helping with good readability. Running this timepiece is a self-winding mechanical movement made completely in APโs workshops. The caliber 3120 features an oscillating rotor, which is made from a single block of 22kt gold. The rotor winds the watch in both directions making sure that the power reserve of 60 hours is always full.
This superb diving watch is made in a size of 42mm, while just rising off of the wrist only 13.9mm. The timepiece is fitted with glare proofed sapphire crystal on both sides. The Royal Oak Offshore Diver in white ceramic is water resistant to 300 meters (1000 feet) and retails for $23,900.
