ASUS Introduces ZenWatch 2
Summer of 2015 is looking like the season of the smartwatch and another new device has just been added to the wearable device market. On Monday at Computex, ASUS unveiled the ZenWatch 2, a smart looking new Android smartwatch with some pretty cool features.
The ZenWatch 2 comes in two sizes, 37mm and 41mm, each with AMOLED displays featuring Gorilla Glass 3, IP67 water and dust resistance and magnetic charging cables. The case, which comes in silver, gunmetal or rose gold, is given the look of a more traditional watch by the addition of a metal crown.
Buyers will be able to customize their new smartwatch with a large selection of first-party straps including rubber or leather choices in several colors. A stainless steel band will be available in silver, gunmetal or rose gold as well as a deluxe Swarovski Professional leather band with crystals set against an embossed diamond pattern.
Even more customizing is possible with the variety of instantly changeable software watch faces that allow the user to switch effortlessly from a traditional face to a more whimsical one. More creative ZenWatch 2 owners can use the Watch Face Land app to design their own custom faces.
The ASUS ZenWatch 2 improves upon the original ZenWatch with a new magnetic charger that promises easy attachment plus faster recharging. Enhancing the ZenWatch 2 experience are exclusive features like FoneHelper, deep ASUS ZenUI integration, Remote Camera and fitness tracking. The next-gen Wellness app allows users to view all of their activity and fitness information in one location, making it easy to keep up with progress toward fitness goals.
ASUS also introduced a companion ZenFone and new ZenPad tablets but did not reveal release dates or pricing. The ZenWatch 2 could be a worthy competitor to the Android smartwatches now on the market or coming later in the year provided the price is right.
