When more than 50,000 runners hit the streets for this year’s TCS New York City Marathon, TAG Heuer will be keeping track of their progress. The Swiss luxury watch label has been named the official timekeeper and timepiece of the marathon for the years 2014 to 2016. TAG Heuer has a long and illustrious history with competitive sports that includes sponsorships in sailing and auto racing going back more than 150 years, making the brand a natural for such a prestigious race.

The TCS New York City Marathon had a rather inauspicious beginning, starting with a mere 127 entrants running four laps around Central Park back in 1970. Since then, the race has grown to become one of the world’s most popular marathons, this year attracting approximately 50,000 runners from all over the globe. The race now begins on Staten Island and proceeds through all five boroughs of New York City before coming to a grand finish in Central Park. The winner has a chance to be chosen the top male or female marathoner of the year by the World Marathon Majors, an alliance of the top six marathons worldwide.

All runners in North America who are competing in the 2014 TCS New York City Marathon will have the chance to submit a story explaining why they have chosen to run in this historic event. Both entrants and members of the public may vote for the most inspiring story at the site www.tcsnycmarathonchallenge.com, with the top trending stories getting a daily mention.
The male and female winners will be chosen by a panel of athletes and celebrities including TAG Heuer brand ambassador and tennis pro Maria Sharapova. Winners of the contest will be announced at a press event in Times Square on Saturday, November 1st, the day before the 2014 TCS New York City Marathon. TAG Heuer will present both winners with one of the brand’s luxury timepieces as well as unveiling a billboard in their honor. TAG Heuer watches will also be presented to the top male and female contestants in the professional runner and wheelchair categories. All winners will take home official TCS New York City Marathon gear.
